unTwist

what: project for the course Biomedical Engineering Design

 

unTwist is a surgical procedure that consists in a 3D printed porous plastic scaffold and 3D printed plates and screws made with silk. unTwist has the aim to reduce the angle of the spine when scoliosis is present.

During this course the problem was approached following a design procedure defined within the Delft Design Guide. The follow steps were taken:

- design criteria

- definition of ten different conceptual solution

- selection of the winning concept

- elaboration into embodiment design and prototyping
